This study examined the role of critical literacy in education for citizenship, aiming to understand how this competence can prepare informed, critical, and participatory citizens. Through a literature review methodology, publications addressing critical literacy, its implications for education, and effective pedagogical practices for its implementation were analyzed. The results highlighted challenges in integrating critical literacy into the curriculum, including the need for teacher training and the development of specific didactic resources. However, opportunities offered by technology to promote critical thinking were also emphasized. Case studies and successful experiences exemplified the practical application of critical literacy, demonstrating its potential to transform education and promote active citizenship. The final considerations stress the importance of continuing to explore pedagogical strategies that integrate critical literacy, aiming to prepare students for contemporary challenges and promote a fairer and more democratic society.
